Academia Europaea Tbilisi Knowledge Hub hosted an event titled Georgian Science Paving Way to Europe on 27th March at the Ivane Javakhisvhili Tbilisi State University (TSU).
Occasion aimed to inform the audience about the projects implemented by the Hub since its foundation in 2019 and to present plans and new perspectives.

Deputy Minister of Education, Science and Youth of Georgia, Nodar Papukasjvili, and Rector of Ivane Javakhisvhili Tbilisi State University, Academician Jaba Samushia made opening remarks underlining that the realization of the scientific potential of Georgia is extremely important to collaborate with the international scientific institutions and expressed readiness to continue support to the Academia Europaea Tbilisi Knowledge Hub: “Academia Europaea has the strongest network uniting the leading scientists throughout Europe. Having the AE Knowledge Hub in Tbilisi allows us to be included in the common European scientific society.” – Prof. Samushia noted.
In December of 2023, Georgia was granted candidate status by the EU, which made the role of the AE Tbilisi Knowledge Hub even more important in the internationalization and integration of Georgian scientists with international science institutions and the implementation of the international scientific standards in Georgia.
This was the main topic of the speakers of the event: Prof. David Lordkipanidze, Academic Director of the Tbilisi Knowledge Hub, Prof. David Prangishvili, Academic Director of the Tbilisi Knowledge Hub in 2019-2023, and Prof. Zaal Kokaia, Chair of the Advisory Board of the same Hub.

“Academia Europaea Tbilisi Knowledge Hub” was established in 2019 and for four years it was led by my colleague Prof. David Prangishvili. Georgian members of the Academia Europaea have been involved in the Hub activities since the first day of its establishment and many important projects were implemented, already. I was honored to be elected as the new Academic Director of the Hub in November 2023 and by all means, I will try to use the potential of the Academia Europaea Tbilisi Knowledge Hub to support the Georgian science” – General Director of the Georgian National Museum, TSU Professor and Academic Director of the Tbilisi Knowledge Hub, Prof. Lordkipanidze noted.

Honorary Professor of Pasteur Institute in Paris and Guest Professor of Tbilisi State University Georgia, Prof. David Prangishvili when summarizing the past noted: „Establishment of the Hub in 2019 was a very important political and academic occasion in Georgia. We have implemented many important projects that helped Georgian scientific society to get closer to the science, innovation, and technological fields of Europe. I am sure that the Hub will continue to play an important role in supporting the development of top-quality interdisciplinary and international studies. As a member of the Advisory Board, I will actively be involved in the development and implementation of the scientific program of the Hub.”

Professor of Lund University, Guest Professor of Tbilisi State University, and Chair of the Advisory Board of AE Tbilisi Knowledge Hub, Prof. Zaal Kokaia underlined the importance of the Georgian scientists working abroad in the world’s leading institutions when talking about the plans of the Hub: “Currently, there are 12 Georgian members in the Academia Europaea. All of them are leaders in their respective fields, but only half of them live and work in Georgia. Others, including myself, are affiliated with the world’s leading institutions. All together, we will try to use our international contacts to support young Georgian scientists to integrate into the international scientific society.” – he said.
Academia Europaea Tbilisi Knowledge Hub was established in 2019 with the initiative of the Academia Europaea and Ivane Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University. The Ministry of Education, Science, and Youth of Georgia has been a financial supporter of the Hub since the day of its foundation.
